– Install in reverse order of removal.
2.3 Removing and installing side padding
with side airbag (4-door)
Note
Removal and installation is described for the right vehicle side.
Removal and installation of left side is similar.
2.3.1 Removing
WARNING
Follow safety precautions when working on the airbag.
– Disconnect vehicle battery ⇒ Rep. Gr. 27 .
– Remove bench seat ⇒ page 304 .
– Remove nut -1- (8 Nm).
– Fold backrest forwards, remove cover cap and remove bolt
-2- (8 Nm).
Note
Cover cap and bolt -2- were discontinued following production start-up and are not therefore installed in all
vehicles.
– Pull side padding -5- upwards out of mountings -3- and -4- in
body.
WARNING
Electrostatic discharges may result in unintentional triggering
of airbag. Therefore, the mechanic must electrostatically dis‐
charge him/herself before disconnecting the igniter and earth
wires. This can be done by briefly touching the body or striker
plate of the door.
– Disconnect wiring harness from rear side airbag.
