3. MAINTENANCE
3.1 Oil
CAUTION:
•
Used engine oil may cause skin cancer if repeatedly left in contact with the skin for
prolonged periods. Although this is unlikely unless your handle used oil on a daily basis,
it is still advisable to thoroughly wash your hands with soap and water as soon as
possible after handling used oil; keep out of reach of children.
NOTE:
Dispose of used engine oil in a manner that is compatible with the environment. We
suggest that you take it in sealed container to your local waste disposal site, or service
station for reclamation. Do not throw it in the trash or pour it on the ground, down sewers or
drains.
a. Engine oil level check
1. Make sure that the mower is in a level position.
2. Remove the engine oil dipstick and wipe [1] it clean.
3. Fully insert the dipstick, then remove it to check the oil level.
4. If the oil level is near or below the lower level mark on the dipstick, fill to upper level
mark with the recommended oil.
Recommended engine oil
Use Honda 4-stroke oil
Service classification: SF, SG
Viscosity: 10W30
b. Engine oil change
NOTE:
Draining can be performed rapidly and completely when the engine is still warm.
1. Stop the engine and disconnect the spark plug cap.
2. Move the throttle lever to “STOP” position and turn the fuel shut-off valve (HRA536 -
HRD535K1/K2 - HRD536/K1/K2), drain the carburetor.
3. Tilt the mower rightward with the carburetor on the upper side as shown.
4. Place a suitable container under the oil filler tube.
5. Remove the oil filler cap and drain oil.
6. When oil stops, raise the mower about 45° and wait5-10seconds, tilt the mower and
drain oil.
7. Repeat 6. procedure as appropriate until all oil is drained.
8. Raise the mower, and refill with recommended engine oil while checking the oil level.

HRD535/K1/K2 0.60 l
HRA536 - HRD536/K1/K2 0.65 l
9. Tighten the oil filler cap securely.
