3.3 Air cleaner
Never use petrol or low flash point solvents to clean the air cleaner elements. A fire or
explosion could result.
CAUTION:
•
Never run the engine without the air cleaner. Rapid engine wear will result from
contaminant, such as dust and dirt being draw into the engine.
1. Remove the air cleaner cover screw(s) and air cleaner cover.
2. Remove the elements and separate them. Carefully check both elements for holes or
tears and replace if damaged.
3. Clean the elements.
Foam element
: clean in warm soapy water, rinse and allow to dry thoroughly, or clean
with a high flash point solvent and allow to dry.
CAUTION:
•
Do not allow the element to soak overnight or for long periods of time in solvent, this may
cause damage to the element.
NOTE:
HRA536 - HRD536/K1/K2 only: dip the element in clean engine oil and squeeze
out all the excess oil. Excess oil will restrict air flow through the foam element and may
transfer to paper element, soaking and clogging it.
Paper element
: blow low pressure (2 bar, 2 kg/cm
2
) compressed air through the filter
from the inside out. Never try to brush the dirt off. Brushing will force dirt into the paper
fibres.
CAUTION:
• Carefully check both elements for holes or tears and replace as required. Damaged
elements will allow dirt to pass into the system.
•
Always clean the air cleaner case and air passages before installing clean elements.
4. Reinstall the air cleaner elements and air cleaner cover securely.
