3.2 Spark plug
If the engine has been running, the engine will be very hot, allow it to cool before
proceeding.
1. Remove the spark plug cap.
2. Clean any dirt from around spark plug.
3. Remove the spark plug using the spark plug wrench.
4. Visually inspect the spark plug. Discard the plug if the insulator is cracked or chipped.
5. Remove carbon or other deposits with a stiff wire brush.
6. Measure the plug gap with a wire-type feeler gauge. If necessary, adjust the gap by
bending the side electrode.
Spark plug gap 0.7 - 0.8 mm

7. Make sure the sealing washer is in good condition. Thread the spark plug in by hand to
prevent cross-threading.
8. After spark plug is seated, tighten with a spark plug wrench to compress the washer.
TIGHTNING TORQUE: 20 N.m
NOTE: When installing a new spark plug, tighten 1/2 turn after the spark plug seat to
compress the washer. When reinstalling used spark plug, tighten 1/8 - 1/4 turn after the
spark plug seats to compress the washer.
CAUTION:
The spark plug must be securely tightened. Improperly tightened spark plug can become
very hot and may damage the engine.
Never use a spark plug with an improper heat range.
