BATTERY REPLACEMENT
Life of the battery
pack
is dependent on several factors such as the number of calls made per
day or month, the number of inputs attached, etc. Some users may prefer to wait for a low
battery a
larm to be reported before sending a person the field to replace the pack.
Others may
prefer to replace the battery pack on a fixed schedule, regardless of the remaining battery
capacity. This approach has several trade
-
offs, which include higher reliabil
ity
and less down
time but at the extra expense of purchasing
batter
ies more often. There could
potential
ly
be
lower labor costs for the field technician if he or she is also servicing other
nearby
equipment
.
Replacement of internal battery packs is quic
k and convenient by pressing left
-
wards on the
large plastic tab and pulling the pack out. Take care to not lose grip of the battery pack while
disconnecting the power connector from the CNI2 board. Battery replacement intervals will vary
depending on fr
equency of calls and
the battery type (lithium vs. a
lkaline).

MAINTENANCE CHECKLIS
T
A regular program of performing inspection and maintenance on a CNI2 when in the field offers
the following benefits:
a) Longer total service li
fe of the product
b) More reliability, less downtime
c) Decreased risk of potential hazards caused by deteriorating wires, etc.
Each
user
will have their own internal policies for maintenance / inspection of equipment, which
includes regulators, turbine m
eters, pipelines, and electrical equipment to name just a few.
Some of these policies and s
chedules are dictated by
statutory requirements that must be met,
and some are based on internal corporate experience where the benefits of regular
m
aintenance have
become apparent.
Physical inspection of the equipment is also necessary, with the following list provided as a
starting point:
1)
Check the condition and integrity of the cables leading into the CNI2. Long term
exposure to the elements may cause the cabl
e jacket to become brittle. Physical
damage from
lawn equipment
or similar equipment is not uncommon. Maintaining the
cable in good condition will enhance the reliability and safety of the system.
2)
Check for evidence of tampering, vandalism, or unintende
d impact damage. If some
one
has attempted to tamper with the unit, there may be evidence of screwdriver pry marks
on the door of the enclosure. Such a unit should be serviced immediately, since the
