Spark Test
A CAUTION
•
Never hold the spark plug cap with wet hands
while performing this test.
• Make sure that no fuel has been spilled on the
engine.
• To
avoid fire hazards, do not allow sparks near
the plug hole.
1. Remove the spark plug from engine, and attach it
to the spark plug cap.
2. Contact the negative (-) electrode of spark plug to
the engine body (not to painted or resin parts).
3. Set the throttle lever to the "Lo" position.
4. Pull
the recoil starter, and check to see if the plug
sparks.
5. If the plug does not spark, check the spark plug
and ignition unit.
Clearance between Ignition Unit Core and Rotor
Magnet
1. Measure the clearance (A) between ignition unit
core (1) and rotor magnet (2) with a feeler gauge.
2. If the measurement is not the factory specification,
loosen the ignition unit mounting screws and
reinstall the ignition unit.
