6.8.3 Installing the Mini-Wheel Encoder on the Rear Roller
When changing the Mini-Wheel encoder on the RollerFORM or relocating it from the
alternate encoder holder to the primary encoder holder, the encoder is installed over
the rear roller on the scanner’s underside.
Before installing a new Mini-Wheel encoder on the RollerFORM, the cable tie that
holds the cable sheath to the handle end must be removed and the Velcro strap that
closes the sheath at the OmniScan connector end of the cable must be loosened. This
operation is not required when relocating the Mini-Wheel encoder to its primary
position. The cable’s length can easily be adjusted by pushing it into or pulling it out
of the handle cap.
To install the Mini-Wheel encoder on the rear roller
1. When installing a new encoder, insert the new Mini-Wheel encoder’s cable inside
the RollerFORM’s cable sheath.
When inserting the Mini-Wheel encoder cable inside the cable sheath, at the
RollerFORM end of the cable, make sure to leave a minimal length of cable measuring
25 cm (10 in.) between the end of the cable sheath and the end of the Mini-Wheel
encoder cable. This will give you the required leeway to install the encoder on the
alternate encoder holder.
2. If necessary, loosen the primary encoder holder’s retaining screw.
3. Install the Mini-Wheel encoder on the primary encoder holder.
4. Tighten the primary encoder holder’s retaining screw (see Figure 6-48 on
page 122).
