18.1.2 Possible causes of errors
îš„ Contamination of the position encoder
îš„ Chips in the scale
îš„ Damage to the position encoder
îš„ Scanning head misaligned (parallelism, distance, etc.)
îš„ Roller bearing in scanning head defective
îš„ Cable damaged
îš„ Signal error caused by high frequency, strong magnetic fields, etc.
îš„ Penetration of humidity
îš„ Short circuit in cable or scanning head
îš„ Light unit defective (LED)
îš„ Strong machine vibrations
îš„ Interface on the control defective
Caution
The amplitude of the reference marks is not monitored!
For example, if a reference mark is contaminated and thus cannot be evaluated, with
distance-coded encoders a corresponding error message (e.g., Reference marks: Incorrect
spacing) is generated.
With encoders with one reference mark, an error message is not generated immediately.
The reference run is continued until, e.g., the axis hits a limit switch.
