Disassembly (Fig. 103)
1. Removeoilfromsteeringcylinderintoadrainpanby
slowly pumping the cylinder shaft. Plug both ports and
clean the outside of the cylinder.
IMPORTANT: Prevent damage when clamping the
steeringcylinderintoavise;clamponthebarrelcle-
visONLY.Donotcloseviseonbarrel.
2. Mount steering cylinder securely in a vise byclamp-
ingonthebarrelclevis.Useofavisewithsoftjawsisrec-
ommended.
3. Using a spanner wrench, loosen and remove exter-
nal collars from both ends of barrel.
4. Use a twistingand pulling motionto carefullyextract
the rear head from the barrel and rear shaft.
5. Grasp end of front shaft and use a twisting and pull-
ingmotiontocarefullyextracttherearshaft,piston,front
shaft and front head assembly from the barrel.
6. Remove cylinder from vise.
IMPORTANT: Whenremovingrollpinfromfrontand
rear shafts, make sure that shaft surfaces are not
damaged.
7. Remove and discard roll pin (item 5) that secures
frontshafttorearshaft.Thenremoverearshaft(item2),
piston (item 9) and front head (item 3) from front shaft.
8. Remove and discard seals, O--rings and wear ring
from piston and heads.
