Engine Oil and Filter Change
WARNING:
Prolonged or repeated
contact with engine oil can lead to skin
dryness, irritation and dermatitis. Furthermore,
used engine oil contains potentially harmful
contaminants which can cause cancer.
When handling used engine oil, always wear
protective clothing and avoid any skin contact with
the oil.
1.
Position the motorcycle on level ground and in an
upright position.
2.
Start the engine and allow it to reach normal
operating temperature.
3.
Stop the engine and place a container beneath the
sump to collect the displaced oil.
4.
Remove the sump drain plug and allow the oil to
drain out completely.
WARNING: The oil may be hot to the
touch. Contact with hot engine oil may
cause skin to be scalded or burnt.

When the oil has completely drained out, fit a new
sealing washer to the sump plug and refit the plug
tightening it to 28 Nm.
6.
Move the container to a point below the oil filter.
7.
Using tool T3880311 to release the filter cartridge,
unscrew and remove the oil filter.

Apply a smear of clean engine oil to the seal of the
new filter.
9.
Fit the filter and tighten, using tool T3880311, to 10
Nm.
10.
Fill the engine with oil of the correct specification
and viscosity.
NOTE:
• Add oil slowly to avoid overfilling or spillage
over the outside of the engine.
11.
Start the engine and allow it to run for a short time at
idle. Check that the low oil pressure warning light
extinguishes shortly a
ft
er starting.
CAUTION: Stop the engine if the low oil
•
pressure warning light fails to extinguish.
Investigate and rectify the cause before restarting
the engine. Running the engine with the low oil
pressure warning light illuminated will cause
engine damage.

While the engine is running, check for oil leaks.
