Example:
If M is 32.10 mm and P is (+5), then
T3 = 32.10 31.50 (+5)/100 mm
= 0.60 0.05 mm = 0.55 mm
If M is 32.10 mm and P is (5), then
T3 = 32.10 31.50 (5)/100 mm
= 0.60 + 0.05 mm = 0.65 mm
5. Select the pinion shim(s) (T3) as follows.
Example:
If T3 is 0.55 mm, then the pinion shim is
0.58 mm.
If T3 is 0.65 mm, then the pinion shim is
0.68 mm.
Selecting the forward gear shims
1. Turn the taper roller bearing outer race
1
two or three times to seat the rollers,
and then measure the bearing height (M)
as shown.
NOTE:
Select the shim thickness (T1) by using the
specified measurement(s) and the calcula-
tion formula.
Measure the bearing outer race at three
points to find height average.
2. Calculate the forward gear shim thickness
(T1) as shown in the examples below.
NOTE:
F is the deviation of the lower case dimen-
sion from standard. The F mark
a
is
stamped on the trim tab mounting surface of
the lower case in 0.01 mm units. If the F
mark unreadable, assume that F is zero
and check the backlash when the unit is
assembled.
Calculation formula:
Pinion shim thickness (T3) =
M 31.50 mm P/100
