Replace Rubber Hoses Periodically
Rubberhosesthatcontainflammablefluidssuchas
hydraulicoilorfuelunderpressuremaybreakduetoaging,
fatigue,andabrasion.Itisverydifficulttogaugetheextent
of deterioration due to aging, fatigue, and abrasion of
rubber hoses by visual inspection alone.
Periodicallyreplacetherubberhoses.(Refertothe
PeriodicalReplacementPartssection.)
Failure to periodically replace rubber hoses may cause a fire,
fluidinjectionintoskin,orthefrontattachmenttofallona
person nearby, which may result in severe burns, gangrene,
or otherwise serious injury or death.
Avoid High-Pressure Fluids
Fluids such as diesel fuel or hydraulic oil under pressure can
penetratetheskinoreyescausingseriousinjury,blindness
or death.
Avoid this hazard by relieving pressure before
disconnectinghydraulicorotherlines.Makesurethatall
connectors are completely connected before applying
pressure.
Searchforleakswithapieceofcardboard;takecareto
protecthandsandbodyfromhigh-pressurefluids.Weara
face shield or goggles for eye protection.
If an accident occurs, see a doctor familiar with this
type of injury immediately. Any fluid injected into the
skinmustbesurgicallyremovedwithinafewhours,or
gangrene may result.
