14.6 Changing the front brake fluid
Warning
Skin irritationBrake fluid can cause skin irritation on contact.
Avoid contact with skin and eyes, and keep out of the reach of children.
Wear suitable protective clothing and goggles.
If brake fluid comes into contact with the eyes, flush the eyes thoroughly with water and consult a physician immediately.

Environmental hazardHazardous substances cause environmental damage.
Oil, grease, filters, fuel, cleaners, brake fluid, etc., should be disposed of as stipulated in applicable regulations.

Avoid contact between brake fluid and painted parts. Brake fluid attacks paint!
Use only clean brake fluid from a sealed container.

Move the brake fluid reservoir mounted on the handlebar to a horizontal position.
Cover the painted parts.
Remove screws 1.
Remove cover 2 with membrane.
Draw the old brake fluid out of the brake fluid reservoir using a syringe and fill with
fresh brake fluid.

Mount bleeder cover 3.

Connect the bleeding device.

Open shut-off valve 4.

Follow the operating instructions of the bleeding device.
Ensure that the inflation pressure is correctly set at pressure gauge A. If neces-
sary, adjust the inflation pressure at pressure regulator B.

Inflation pressure 2… 2.5 bar (29… 36 psi)

Pull off protection cap 5 of the brake caliper bleeder screw. Connect the hose of
the bleeder bottle.
Bleeding device (00029013100) ( p. 210)
Open bleeder screw 6 by approx. one half turn.
Info
Bleed until fresh brake fluid emerges from the bleeder bottle hose without
bubbles.
Tighten the bleeder screw.
Close shut-off valve 4.
Open the bleeder screw again until brake fluid stops emerging.
