EMC product standard for PDS (Power-Drive-Systems) EN 61800-3
In June 1996 the product standard EN 61800-3 for frequency inverter based drives was released. It
has priority over the existing general standards (generic standards). If a drive is build-in into another
unit for which exists an own EMC-standard then this standard has to be considered.
Objective of the EMC-standard 89/336/EEC is the ability of electrical and electronical installations
to be well functional in their electromagnetic enviroment, without any influence to itself or any
other installation within it.
Due to this objective the PDS product standard consists of limitation values for allowed interferences
as well as of requirements for the necessary supression measurements.
The Power-Drive-Standard EN 61800-3 covers the complete drive, from the mains supply to the
motor shaft.
