LOWER UNIT
3. Replace:
Gear oil
Lower unit leakage check
1. Check:
Pressure
Pressure drops Inspect the seals
and components.
NOTE:
Do not overpressurize the lower unit since
excessive pressure may cause the air to
leak out.
Replacement steps:
Tilt up the outboard slightly.
Place a container under the gear oil
drain screw 1.
Remove the drain screw, the check
screw 2, and then drain the gear oil.
Place the outboard in an upright posi-
tion.
Add gear oil through the drain hole
until it overflows from the check hole.
Recommended gear oil:
GEAR CASE LUBE (USA) or
Hypoid gear oil, SAE 90
Total amount:
320 cm
3
(10.8 US oz, 11.3 Imp oz)
Install the check screw and then the
drain screw.
Checking steps:
Connect the pressure tester to the gear
oil level check hole.
Pressure tester:
YB-03595/90890-06762
Apply the specified pressure.
Pressure:
100 kPa (1.0 kg/cm
2
, 14.2 psi)
Check that the lower unit holds the
specified pressure for ten seconds.
