Apart from curiosity, there is one important respect in which you need to
know about these programs, and that is when it comes time to delete an
aplet. The helper programs must be deleted from the Program Catalog
after deleting the main aplet in the APLET view by highlighting the aplet and
then pressing the DEL key. For more information on this see page 207.
The advantage of having easy access to the Connectivity program is that it
allows you to off-load any aplets not being used onto a PC or Mac, which
both have essentially unlimited storage in comparison with any calculator.
In addition to aplets, there are many other data structures on the hp 39g+
which can be sent and received to other hp 39g+’s via the infra-red link.
These include Lists (via the List Catalog), Matrices (via the Matrix
Catalog), independent Notes (via the Notepad Catalog) and Programs
(via the Program Catalog). Each of these has a key and, unless the
Catalog is empty, a
key. Any notes and sketches which are part of an
aplet (via the NOTE & SKETCH keys) will be transferred with the aplet.

Aplets are available to do many tasks such as exploring graphs, bivariate and
time series analysis, as well as many tasks called for in Physics and
Chemistry. The number of web sites with aplets is increasing with time.
Finding aplets
The Hewlett-Packard site is the best starting point and can be found at
http://www.hp.com/calculators. From that point you can follow the links to
collections of material for the hp 39g+ as well as software and utilities. Other
sites can be found that have been created by enthusiasts. One of the most
extensive is The HP HOME view, found at http://www.hphomeview.com
If you own an hp 39g+ then you already
have the required cable with which to
download from the internet. If you own
one of the earlier models then you need
to invest in a Connectivity Kit to get the
required cable.
Downloading an aplet from the Web is
very simple. Accessing the HP site will
present you with a page which may be
similar to the one on the right, although the appearance will probably have
changed since this text was written.
