Step 8: Wipe the drives
After you reset the BIOSon the server modules, you need to wipe the S10
Node drives. This procedure wipes the OS drives on each server module and
also wipes all the data and database drives.
To wipe the drives:
1. For each server module, insert one of the prepared USB flash drives into
one of the USBports on the server module.
Be sure to use the USBflash drives that are prepared with the operating
system ISOimage, as described in "Preparing the USB flash drives" on
page17.
2. Use PuTTY to establish a serial connection to one of the server modules,
as described in "Using a PuTTY serial connection (S10 Nodes only)"
on page8.
Note: You need to perform the wipe procedure on both server modules.
If you have two USB-to-mini-USB cables, you can perform the
procedure on both server modules concurrently. To do this, establish a
serial connection to each server module. After powering on the power
and cooling modules (step 3 below), perform the remaining steps on
both server modules. You do not need to synchronize the steps between
the two modules.
3. Using the rocker switch on each power and cooling module, power both
power and cooling modules on.
4. When you see this prompt in the PuTTYwindow, press Delete:
You have approximately ten seconds to do this. If you wait too long, the
server module boots using the installed OS. In this case, you need to
reboot the server module again.
