BIS Tile Layout Bispectral Index (BIS) (Optional)
19 - 14 V Series Operating Instructions
• 15% to 50%: the numerics cannot be reliably derived.
• 50% to 100%: the numerics are reliable.
• Suppression Ratio (SR)
SR numeric is the percentage of time over the last 63-second period during which the EEG is
considered to be in a suppressed state.
The BIS digital tile displays the BIS, EMG, SQI, SR, BC, ASYM, SEF, TP, sBIS, and sEMG parameters for BIS
monitoring of both the left and right sides of the brain.
• Burst Count (BC)
A burst means a period (at least 0.5 second) of EEG activity followed and preceded by inactivity.
The BC numeric helps you quantify suppression by measuring the number of EEG bursts per
minute. This parameter is intended for the BIS module with the Extend Sensor or Bilateral Sensor
only. BC numeric is valid only when SQI ≥ 15% and SR ≥ 5%.
• Asymmetry (ASYM)
ASYM is a processed variable indicating the percentage of EEG power present in left or right
hemispheres with respect to total (left and right) EEG power.
• Spectral Edge Frequency (SEF)
The SEF is a frequency below which 95% of the total power is measured.
• Total Power (TP)
TP numeric which only monitors the state of the brain indicates the power in the frequency band
0.5-30Hz. The useful range is 40-100 dB.
• BIS Variability Index (sBIS)
This numeric represents the standard deviation of the BIS variable over the last three minutes.
• EMG Variability Index (sEMG)
This numeric represents the standard deviation of the EMG value over the last three minutes.
19.4.4 BIS Alarms
Refer to the "Alarm Responses: Neuro Tab" on page 19-4 for additional information.
19.4.5 Message Area
The message area provides information about the current state of the BIS parameter. If there is more
than one message to display, the messages scroll.
MESSAGE DETAILS
BIS R High Alarm Violation Indicates that the current BIS value for right brain hemisphere is either
equal to or higher than the set alarm limits.
BIS R Low Alarm Violation Indicates that the current BIS value for right brain hemisphere is either
equal to or lower than the set alarm limits.
BIS L High Alarm Violation Indicates that the current BIS value for left brain hemisphere is either equal
to or higher than the set alarm limits.
BIS L Low Alarm Violation Indicates that the current BIS value for left brain hemisphere is either equal
to or lower than the set alarm limits.
Check SQI R Level Indicates that
the current SQI value for right brain hemisphere is either
equal to or lower than 50%.
Check SQI L Level Indicates that the current SQI value for left brain hemisphere is either
equal to or lower than 50%.
