5.2.3 Gas admission valve
The two gas admission valves (GAV) per cylinder supply the gas to each combustion chamber.
When the GAV opens, there is an injection of gas into the combustion chamber.
The ECS monitors and controls the GAV. The ECS controls the gas quantity independently for
each cylinder to adjust the engine load. Servo oil is used to operate the GAV, when the ECS has
energized the solenoid valve (003, Figure 5-9).
Servo oil at decreased pressure is used to lubricate and to seal the valve spindle of the GAV.
The valve stroke sensor installed in the cover (006) transmits signals to the ECS. The ECS uses
these signals to adjust the timing of the gas supply, which is related to the engine load.
If the GAV has a leak, gas will flow through a bore in the valve body (001) to the space between
the walls of the gas supply pipe (double wall). The gas will activate the gas detection sensor
and the ECS will show an alarm.
