4.10 Exhaust gas system
The exhaust gas system collects the exhaust gas of the cylinders in a manifold. The remaining
energy of the exhaust gas is used to operate the turbine of the turbocharger (002, Figure 4-10)
(refer to section 4.8 Scavenge air system).

The exhaust gas system has as interface to the plant the engine connection 71 (exhaust gas
turbocharger outlet, in Figure 4-10 marked with a circle).
The exhaust gas system has the parts that follow:

Exhaust valve
The exhaust valve (004) of each cylinder releases the exhaust gas of the combustion into
the exhaust gas manifold.
•
Exhaust gas manifold
The exhaust gas manifold (003) collects the exhaust gas from the cylinders.
•
Turbocharger bypass pipe
Usually the engine has a turbocharger bypass pipe (001) for different operating
conditions.
