F50 9
Engine cooling system (5)
Checking / topping up coolant
The cooling water level must be checked
when the system is cold. Make sure that
the anti-freeze and anti-corrosive liquid
is sufficient (-25°C).
When hot, the system is under pressure.
When it is opened, there is danger of
scalding!
- If necessary fill in a sufficient amount
of coolant through the open port (A)
of the compensating tank.
Change / top up coolant
When hot, the system is under pressure.
When it is opened, there is danger of
scalding!
Use only approved coolants!
Observe the instructions in the chapter
entitled "Operating substances"!
- Remove the drain screw (C) on the
radiator and let the coolant drain
completely.
- Reinstall the drain screw (C) and
tighten properly.
- Fill in coolant through the filling
opening (A) on the compensation
tank up to centre of sight glass (B).
The air is only able to escape completely
from the cooling system once the engine
has reached its operating temperature
(at least 90°C).
Check the fluid level again, top up to the centre of sight glass (B) if necessary.
