Manual transmission
Manual transmission lets you hear the dialing, ringing and
fax-receiving tones while sending a fax.

Place the document face up in the ADF, or face down on the
scanner glass.

Pick up the handset of the external phone and listen for a dial
tone.
—OR—
Press
Tel/R
and listen for a dial tone.

On the external phone, dial the fax number you want to call. If
you pressed
Tel/R
, dial using the machine dial pad.

When you hear the fax tone, press
Fax Start
.

If you picked up the handset of the external phone, replace the
handset.
Automatic transmission
This is the easiest way to send a fax.

Place the document face up in the ADF, or face down on the
scanner glass.

Enter the fax number using the dial pad, Speed Dial or Search.
(See Speed dialing on page 7-5.)

Press
Fax Start
.
You must not pick up the handset of the external phone or press
Tel/R
to listen for a dial tone.
