D-Link DSR-Series User Manual 103
Section 6 - Wireless Settings
Advanced Settings
Path: Wireless > Advanced > Advanced Settings
You can modify the 802.11 communication parameters in this page. Generally, the default settings are appropriate
for most networks.
Field Description
Beacon Interval Beacons are packets sent by an Access Point to synchronize a wireless network. The default value is 100.
DTIM Interval
(Delivery Trac Indication Message) 2 is the default setting. A DTIM is a countdown informing clients of
the next window for listening to broadcast and multicast messages.
RTS Threshold
This value should remain at its default setting of 2432. If inconsistent data ow is a problem, only a minor
modication should be made.
Fragmentation Thresh-
old
The fragmentation threshold, which is specied in bytes, determines whether packets will be fragmented.
Packets exceeding the 2346 byte setting will be fragmented before transmission. 2346 is the default
setting.
Preamble Mode
Select either Long or Short. The Preamble Type denes the length of the CRC (Cyclic Redundancy Check)
block for communication between the Access Point and roaming wireless adapters. High network trac
areas should use Short preamble type.
Protection Mode
Select either None or CTS-to-Self Protection. Select the CTS-to-Self Protection to enable CTS-to-Self
protection mechanism, which is used to minimize collisions among stations in a mixed 802.11b & g
environment. The default selection is None.
1. Click Wireless > Advanced > Advanced Settings.
2. Complete the elds in the table below and click Save.
