FUEL TANK SERVICE
CAUTION
Fuel system is under pressure. Allow the vehicle to sit
with the key off for approximately one hour to allow fuel
pressure to drop.
REMOVAL
1. Disconnect the battery. Refer to Battery Service page
2.62.
2. Remove the left rocker panel. Refer to Rocker Panel
Service page 11.41.
3. EVAP MODELS ONLY: Remove the carbon canister.
Refer to Carbon Canister Service page 5.22.
4. EVAP MODELS ONLY: Remove the three fasteners
securing the carbon canister bracket to the chassis
and remove the bracket.
5. While holding a shop towel around the fuel line
connectors, disconnect the fuel line
q
from the fuel
pump. Refer to Fuel Line Quick Connect Removal
page 5.6.
NOTICE
A small amount of fuel may come out of the fuel lines or
pump fitting. Properly drain fuel into a suitable
container.
6. Remove the fuel tank vent line quick connect fitting

from the tank.
7. Disconnect the fuel pump electrical harness
w
.
8. Remove the two fuel tank bracket fasteners
r
that
retain the fuel tank in the chassis. Swing the tank
brackets clear of the fuel tank for removal.
9. Remove the three plastic ties
t
retaining the main
wire harness to the fuel tank.
