2.7 Protection against Mechanical Movements
Caution!
The moving components of the M4 TORNADO can be dangerous in case of
touching them with the hand.
The M4 TORNADO has a mechanical moving door and an X-Y-Z-stage. During moving of these
components it has to be avoided to put the hand in their trajectory.
The following safety rules have to be considered as well:
If the door is moving, hands and fingers should not be in its travel. The door will stop, if it is
touched by something.
Be cautious while the stage is moving. The stage has a high movement force. If the door is
opened, the stage will move slower allowing to remove fingers in case of danger.
2.8 Staff Requirements
The following requirements are made relating to the operating staff of the M4 TORNADO:
In case of fatigue, as well as under the influence of alcohol or drugs, operation is not allowed.
The operating staff must not have any physical or emotional restrictions that impair the
attention or discernment either temporarily or permanently.
The manufacturer must have familiarized at least one person of the operating staff with the
technical and safe application of the M4 TORNADO. This accountability is non-transferable.
Each person who is authorized to set up, install, activate or operate the M4 TORNADO must
have read and understood the complete manual.
The staff must have profound knowledge of the following operational procedures, regulations,
behavior and components:
o Operational procedures such as the startup and shut down of the M4 TORNADO.
o Safety equipment of the M4 TORNADO and its correct function.
o Operational procedures during the operation of the instrument.
o Behavior and reaction in hazardous situations.
2.9 Safety Equipment
Danger!
The M4 TORNADO must only be operated with functional safety equipment.
Concerning the M4 TORNADO, X-ray radiation with a maximum energy of 50 keV is generated
with a maximum tube rating of 40 W (refer also to the datasheet of the X-ray tube). All possible
constructive measures have been implemented to avoid X-ray radiation hazards for the
personnel.
The safety equipment of the M4 TORNADO is listed in Table 1 and illustrated in Fig. 1.
