Indicates that the mains voltage is switched on and the
instrument can be used
3 Blue light “Vacuum” Indicates that the chamber is evacuated, door can only
be opened after venting the sample chamber.
4 Yellow warning light “X-ray
on” on the keypad
Current controlled display, which indicates that the X-
ray tube is switched on and radiation is produced. In
case of failure, the high voltage is switched off or cannot
be switched on.
5 Red warning light “Shutter
open” on the keypad
Indicates that the shutter is open and radiation is in the
sample chamber, shutter can only be opened if sample

6 Primary radiation protection of
the X-ray tube
Housing made of 3 mm brass and 3 mm Cu with a
3 mm hole for limiting the beam emission (not visible).
7 Secondary radiation
protection of the X-ray tube
Housing made of 2 mm steel for further limiting the
emission of X-rays
8 Shutter Software controlled shutter for opening only in case of
closed instrument doors and start of measurement (not
visible).
9 Instrument door with door
switches
Door switches connected to the safety circuitry that
allows opening the door for change of the sample only if
