4 Start the measuring software
Start with the corresponding icon on the
desktop or via Start >> Programs >>
Bruker>> M4 TORNADO.

screen (see Fig. 12)

the device area of the software will be
illuminated.
The light up of the yellow RADIATION
lamp on the keypad indicates that the HV
is switched on.

5.4.3 Running the program without measurement
In case of running the program without a measurement it has to be decided which is the best
procedure for the X-ray tube. The tube needs to be warmed up for high stability, in particular for
quantification. On the other hand the filament will be stressed in case of too long running with high
heat current or if the filament is switched on and off very often. Therefore it is recommended to
run the tube all day, but in case of no measurement the tube current could be reduced to 100 µA.
5.4.4 Running the program without instrument
The program can also run without instrument. In that case it is necessary to have a dongle that
simulates the instrument. All program functions are available and only instrument control functions
are deactivated. This allows complete data evaluation without instrument.
5.4.5 Finishing the operation
The program can be finished with a click on the icon in the title bar (see Table 16). A pop-up
dialog asks how the program should be finished. Depending on the instrument status, the
following switch-off possibilities will be offered:
