Q1. What is the difference between FELCOM-500 and FELCOM-250? 1-7
They have different antenna units. The Antenna unit for FELCOM-500 is FB-1500, and
the one for FELCOM-250 is FB-1250.
As for the differences in services provided, FELCOM-250 does not provide the
UDI/RDI service.
Additionally, the contents for the Standard IP data and Streaming IP data service are
different.
The satellite coverage area will be slightly smaller, too. FAX will required the elevation
angle of 20 degrees or more.
Q2. Is the LES the same with the conventional one? 1-5
The FB system architecture is different from the conventional architecture.
FB refers to the LES (Land Earth Station: Service provider) as SAS (Satellite Access
Station), and to the LESO (Land Earth Station Operator) as DP (Distribution Partner).
Q3. Are several different services available concurrently? 5
It depends on which service you will be connecting to. Basically, PS connection and CS
connection can be established concurrently.
Q4. Will several sets of phone numbers be allocated? 4
No. Several sets of phone numbers will not be allocated as in the case of Fleet 77.
4 numbers will be allocated, each for 4k AMBE for phone calls, for 3.1k Audio for FAX,
and for UDI and RDI.
Q5. Where does TA connect to during ISDN communication?
TA is not required. FB is not equipped with an ISDN port (S/T point); it will be
connected in serial with the PC.
Q6. Please describe the communication rate. 4
The communication rate has become significantly cheaper than Fleet 77; call rate is
approximately 1/2, and data communication rate is approximately 1/3.
For Standard IP data, you will be billed by the data volume, and for Streaming IP data,
you will be billed by the ISDN connection time. The discount rate system for the
communication rate varies according to the service provider, but they are basically
cheaper when the subscription period is longer.
Q7. Is mailing software attached to Windows
(such as Outlook Express, etc.) available?
Yes, they are. The recommended software is AMOSCONNECT (freeware) which is
equipped with the resume function and compression function for the attached files.
