1.2.6 Service Description
1. Standard IP data Service
Standard IP data service enables you to use any FB terminal, provides at maximum
Class 8: 432 kbps and Class 9: 239 kbps(Uplink)/284 kbps (Downlink) based on best
effort, and bills you according to the data volume.
When there are many active users while the link is at “busy” status, the bit rate will be
lower than when there is no traffic.
INMARSAT is managing the satellite resources in a dynamic manner so that the users
can be provided of this service at its maximum performances.
Standard IP data is the connection type used for almost all applications. Examples:
Internet browser, E-mail, FTP, computerized charts, weather chart updates, and engine
monitoring. Class 9 is 239/284 kbps.
2. Streaming IP data Service
For customers who require a guaranteed bandwidth, one or more dedicated Streaming
IP data connections can be also be supported. Streaming IP data provides an on-demand,
guaranteed Quality of Service connection at any one of 8, 16, 32, 64, 128 or 256 kbps.
The capacity is not offered to other users and effectively delivers reserved capacity for a
specific IP connection. Streaming IP data is available on demand and on a “first-come
first-served” basis. If the channel requested is unavailable a user can request another
channel with a lower bit rate.
Streaming IP data is best suited for Streaming application purposes, such as for
transmitting video or audio data. Class 9 does not provide service for 245 kbps.
