2042480-001 C Dash 2500 Patient Monitor 13-3
MASIMO SET® SpO2: Description
Description
The SpO
2
parameter in the Dash 2500 Patient Monitor is available in two
different leading technologies: NELLCOR
®
and MASIMO SET
®
. The SpO
2
technology logo will be on the side of the Monitor next to the SpO
2
connector.
This section refers to MASIMO SET
®
SpO
2
technology.
Functional oxygen saturation (SpO
2
) of arterial blood is monitored in the Dash
2500 Patient Monitor by a pulse oximetry parameter that provides continuous,
noninvasive measurements of SpO
2
and can provide displays of pulse rate, a
plethysmographic waveform, and a signal strength bar. The signal strength bar
is an indication of the confidence associated with the saturation measurement
and timing of the pulse. To begin SpO
2
monitoring, plug the sensor cable into the
SpO
2
port, place the SpO
2
sensor on the patient's finger, and monitoring begins
automatically.
Functional SpO
2
is the ratio of oxygenated hemoglobin to hemoglobin that is
capable of transporting oxygen. This ratio, expressed as a percentage, is shown
in the SpO
2
field of the screen and is updated with each heart beat. The
percentage of SpO
2
is also indicated by a pulse tone that is activated by the
Adjust QRS volume option in the HR/Pulse menu. The pitch frequency of the
tone is proportional to the oxygen saturation value: highest at 100% saturation
and lower as the level of saturation falls.
Pulse Rate derived from SpO
2
appears under the following conditions:
View SpO2 PR? option is set to yes:
When pulse rate (PR) is derived from SpO
2
, the value appears in the SpO
2
vital signs field.
NOTE: Unless PR is the source for the HR/Pulse, it is only trended when the
View SpO2 PR? option is set to yes.
View SpO2 PR? option is set to no:
PR will not appear in the SpO
2
vital signs field, but SpO
2
is still a valid source
for the HR/Pulse.
When SpO
2
is the source for the HR/Pulse:
Pulse rate derived from SpO
2
appears only in the HR vital signs field (dashes
appear for PR in the SpO
2
vital signs field).
The SpO
2
parameter has audible and visible alarms to let you know when the
SpO
2
levels are outside the alarm limits. If the View SpO2 PR? option is set to yes,
audible and visible alarms for the pulse rate (derived from SpO
2
) are activated.
The alarm limits for PR are the same as those for HR/Pulse.
