Alarms: Interruption of Visible and/or Audible Indications
Interruption of Visible and/or Audible Indications
The visible or audible indications of alarms can be interrupted when one of the
following features is activated: alarm disable, alarm volume off, or alarm silence.
Alarm disable - When you turn on the Monitor, go into standby mode, or
return from standby mode, alarms are temporarily disabled until patient
connections are reestablished. The message ALARM DISABLE X:XX appears
in the alarm message field until alarms are restored. The visible and audible
indications are interrupted while this feature is activated. The following
alarms cannot be disabled: MEMORY LOST, XXX PARAMETER FAILED, XXX
PARAMETER ERROR, BATTERY LOW, and NIBP OVERPRESSURE. To resume
monitoring, choose the SelectBox and push the Silence Alarm hardkey.
NOTEXXX denotes the parameter name or label.
Alarm volume - If the alarm volume is set to 0, alarms are indefinitely
silenced, including crisis alarms. The message ALARM VOLUME OFF appears
in the alarm message field. Alarms will not be audible again until the volume
is adjusted above 0 (see Adjust Alarms menu).
NOTES
Alarm volume can only be set to 0 if this option has been chosen in the
Configuration mode.
Alarm volume applies to all alarms except system fault alarms.
Alarm volume can be adjusted from 45dB to 60dB.
Alarm silence - Any time the Silence Alarm hardkey is pushed, the
audible indications for any existing alarms are temporarily silenced. The
length of the alarm silence (1 or 2 minutes; user selectable under Config
settings menu) is set in the Configuration mode.
Alarm Priorities
Most alarms have four priority levels—crisis, warning, procedural, and
message—which can be changed to meet the needs of a particular department,
patient, or clinician. You can modify the alarm priorities in the Advanced
Settings menu of the appropriate parameter. Crisis, warning, and procedural
alarms have audible tones that differentiate them from each other. Message
alarms have no audible indications.
NOTES
The asystole and VFIB/VTACH alarms are set permanently at crisis priority.
Artifact alarm will escalate from message to procedural after 20 seconds.
