Supported Ethernet SPAs
This section lists and describes the Ethernet SPAs supported by the Cisco ASR 1000 Series Routers and the
SIP line cards supporting these Ethernet SPAs.
2-Port Gigabit Synchronous Ethernet SPA
The 2-Port Gigabit Synchronous Ethernet SPA provides time and frequency distribution across Ethernet
networks. Synchronization is not traditionally present in the all-packet networks. Synchronization is
cost-effective, and especially important to service providers who have migrated late to packet networks, and
use an external time-division multiplexing (TDM) circuit to provide timing to remote networks. These remote
networks constantly require synchronization for crucial voice services.
SPA-2X1GE-SYNCE can also interface with either an external SSU or BITS interface or a GPS timing
interface. The 2-Port Gigabit Synchronous Ethernet SPA comprises these clock interfaces:
