Configuring Encapsulation
When traffic crosses a WAN link, the connection needs a Layer 2 protocol to encapsulate traffic. To set the
encapsulation method, use the following commands:

Channelized:
slot/subslot/port/t1-number:channel-group—Specifies
the location of the interface. See also the Specifying

slot/subslot/port—Specifies the location of the
interface. See also the Specifying the Interface
Address on a SPA, on page 242.

Sets the encapsulation type on the interface:
• hdlc—High-Level Data Link Control (HDLC)
protocol for serial interface. This encapsulation
method provides the synchronous framing and
error detection functions of HDLC without
windowing or retransmission. This is the default
for synchronous serial interfaces.
• ppp—Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP) (for serial
interface).
• frame-relay—Frame Relay (for serial interface).
