REED VALVE SERVICE
REED VALVE INSPECTION
Proper reed valve operation is important for proper
engine performance. Follow the inspection procedure
bellow to ensure proper operation.
IMPORTANT
If reed valve air gap is excessive DO NOT attempt to
reverse the reeds to reduce the air gap. Replace petals
(VForce3) if petals are chipped or the air gap is
excessive.
The following components will need to be removed or
disconnected for reed valve inspection:
• Side panels and hood
• Resonator
• Oil tank
• Air box
• Throttle body
Refer to the applicable sections of the service manual for
removal procedures.
1. Remove the throttle body adapter fasteners

and
then remove the throttle body adapter.
2. The throttle body adapter

uses integrated stuffers.
Inspect and replace adapter if damage is found.
3. Remove the reed assemblies
e
for inspection.
4. Measure the air gap between the fiber reed and the
reed block. The air gap should not exceed
specification.

0.015 in (.381 mm)
