CYLINDER COMPRESSION TEST
If the engine must be running to do some work.
make sure the area is well ventilated, Never run the
engine in an enclosed area. The exhaust contains
poisonous carbon monoxide gas rhllt may cauS6
loss of consciousness and may lead to dellth. Run
the e ngine in an open area or with an e xhaust
evacuation system in enc/ased area.

Stop the engine and remove th e sark plug.
Install
a com pression ga uge.
Open the th r ottle ai lihe way and crank the eng ine
wit h the kic kstarter un li l the gauge reading St OPS
rising.
COMPRESSION PRESSURE:
XR 100R: ',21 kPa ( 11 .5 kgffem ', 164 psi)
at 300 r pm
XR 80R: 1176 k Pa 112.0 kgfl cm '. 171 psI)
at 1 ,000 r pm
Low compression can be caused b y:
- Bl own cylinder head gasket

CAMSHAFT REMOVAL
Remove the f ol l ow ing
- Side cover (page 2 -21
- Seat Ipage 2-21
- F uel tank (page 2· 3)
- Le ft cra nkcase cover (page t3-9)
Remove the two bOlts and cylin der head cover.
Loosen the cam chain tensioner adju sting bolt lock
nut and adjuster.
