DRIVE CHAIN SLACK INSPECTION

Turn off the engine, place the mo torcycle on its side
stand and shi ft the tr ansm ission into neutr al.
Check the <;103<:\ , if'> t he dri"'fI en .. in lo wer!l'" midway
between the sprockets.
C HA IN SLACK: 25 - 35 mm 11 - 1 -3 /8 in)
CAUTION:
Excessive c hain slack, 50 mm (2 In} or morfl , maV
dllmilg e the frame.
ADJU S TMENT
Loosen the .ear ax le nUl .
Turn bo th adjusting nuts un til the correct drive chain
slack is ob!.~ i ned .
Make Sure the i ndex mar ks on both adjusters are
align ed w ith the i rl dex marks on the swi n garm
T ighten the .ea T ax le nut to Ih.:. speci fi ed torque.
TORQUE: 62 N·m 16.3 kgf .m, 46 I bf.f t )
T ighten both adjusting n uts .
RecheCK th e dr i ve Ch ain slack and free whee l
rOl atio n.
Chec k the rear br ake pedal free play (page 3-19).
adiust if necessa,,{.
L ubr ic ate the d riv e chain w it h 1/80 -90 geilr oil.
W ip e off any excess oil.
CLEANING INSPECTION AND LUBRI-
CATION
If t he dr ive chain becomes e ~ treme l y dirty, it should
be removed and cle aned prior to lubrication.
Remove the l eft crankcase cove r (page 13 ·9).
Carefully remove the retaining clip with pliers.
Remove the master link and drive chain.
