Do not route harnesses or install components on the inner transom that will interfere or obstruct the steering cylinder's
movement. Ensure that a 2.54 cm (1 in.) space (clearance) exists behind the cylinder in all positions as the cylinder pivots
during operation.

IMPORTANT: Steering components should not contact any part of exhaust during any degree of the components movement.
PowerāAssisted Steering Pump
The powerāassisted steering pump is not serviceable and must be replaced as a complete assembly.

NOTE: The powerāassisted steering pump pulley may be removed and installed while the powerāassisted steering pump
assembly remains mounted to the engine.

CAUTION
Disconnecting or connecting the battery cables in the incorrect order can cause injury from electrical shock or can damage
the electrical system. Always disconnect the negative (ā) battery cable first and connect it last.
1. Disconnect both battery cables from the battery.
2. Be certain to disconnect the negative (ā) cable first.

Remove the serpentine belt. Refer to Section 1C ā Replacing Belt.
