<Pulling Mower Backwards>
When the clutch lever is released, the pump control bowl
pushes the neutral valve open. When the mower is pulled
backwards, oil is pumped out of the motor cylinder through oil
passage (1). The mower is free to roll backwards because the
oil is allowed to return to the transmission case through the
open neutral valve. New oil is drawn into the motor cylinder
through oil passage (2).
