PERFORMANCE TEST
Before checking the ground speed, the engine
speed and drive clutch cable must be properly
adjusted.
1. Have an assistant hold the blade brake
lever while you perform the maximum
engine speed inspection.
2. Move the throttle lever to fast and confirm
the engine rpm measures 2950 ~ 3100 rpm
with the Roto-Stop® engaged.
Adjust if necessary (P. 3-17
).
3. Check the drive clutch cable adjustment
(P. 3-15
).
4. Measure and mark two lines 30 feet apart
on a smooth concrete level surface.
5. Position the lawn mower several feet behind the first line, move the throttle and shift levers to fast, and engage
the drive clutch lever. Using a stop watch, measure the time required for the lawn mower to cross the two lines.
Take several measurements to obtain an average.
6. Check the transmission operation under load.
a. Position the lawn mower on a smooth concrete surface.
b. Move the shift lever in the fastest position and engage the
drive clutch lever.
c. Hold the lawn mower back and confirm the tires rotate (slip
on the concrete).
d. If the ground speed is too slow and/or the wheels stop
under load, first check the control arm for binding (see
“Mower Will Not Self-Propel.” on P. 2-17
), and then check
the fluid level (P. 1 3 - 5
).
DANGER
The blades are rotating during this
procedure. Coming in contact with rotating
blades will cause amputation. Do not allow
your hands or feet to come into contact
with the rotating blades while performing
this procedure.
