Configure data pattern matching
You can configure the Connect IT to send an event to the system log each time a specified data
pattern is received on a serial port to which a device is connected. This feature is used to monitor an
external device.
The data pattern is an extended regular expression. For best results, you should be familiar with the
data strings that could generated by the device, such as an error message.
You can review any matched events in the system log.
Configure the feature
1. Log in to the web UI.
2. Click System > Serial Configuration.
3. Expand the port that you want to configure.
4. Expand Data Pattern Matching.
5. Add a data pattern.
a. Click Add Data Pattern.
b. In the Data Pattern field, enter a string that could be generated by the external device to
which the Connect IT may be connected. For best results, you should enter a string that
you know is generated by the device.
c. Repeat to add additional strings.
6. Click Apply to save the configuration and apply the change.
Review events in the system log
You can review any matched events in the system log. This is any event in which a string received by
the serial port matches a data pattern that you have configured.
1. From the dashboard, click System >Logs.
2. Expand System Logs.
3. Expand Events.
4. Review the Source column for "serial" entries.
5. Look in the Message column for the message, which is in the following format:
"Received <data pattern> on port <label>"
Where <data pattern> is the matched data pattern that you configured and <label> is the port
number from which the message originated.
