Deleting Data on the Hard Disk
This can be specified by the machine administrator.
This
function is available only when the optional hard disk and the SD card supplied with the hard disk are
installed.
To use this function, the optional Data overwrite security unit must be installed.
The printer's hard disk stores all the data of documents processed using the printer function. It also stores
code counter, and Address Book data.
Overwriting Data on the Hard Disk
You can prevent data leakage by automatically overwriting temporarily saved data (Auto Erase Memory)
or overwriting all the data stored on the hard disk (Erase All Memory).
Auto Erase Memory Setting
To erase data on the hard disk by job type, specify [Auto Erase Memory Setting].
Erase All Memory
To erase all the data on the hard disk at once, specify [Erase All Memory].
Methods of Erasing the Data
You can select the method of erasing the data from the following:
The factory default is “"Random Numbers"” with the number of overwrites set to 3 times.
NSA
(National Security Agency)
Overwrites the data on the hard disk twice with
random numbers and once with zeros.
DoD
(Department of Defense)
Overwrites the data with a number, its
complement, and random numbers, and then
checks the result.
Random Numbers Overwrites the data with random numbers the
specified number of times. You can specify
between
1 and 9 as the number of times the data
is overwritten with random numbers.
• Depending on the amount of data and the erasure method, full erasure might take several hours.
• Once
in progress, the Erase All Memory function can be paused, but not stopped. No other operations
are possible until all data is erased.
