CYLINDER HEAD/VALVES
Install the valve springs with the tightly wound coils
should facing the combustion chamber.
Install the spring retainer.
COMBUSTION CHAMBERS
Grease the cotters
to ease installation.
To prevent loss of
tension, do not
compress the valve
spring more than
necessary to
remove the cotters.
Install the valve spring cotters using the spring com-
pressor.

Support the cylinder head so the valve heads will
not contact anything that cause damage.
Tap the valve stems gently with two plastic ham-
mers as shown to seat the cotters firmly.

CYLINDER HEAD INSTALLATION
Clean the mating surface of the cylinder and cylin-
der head.
Install the cam chain, cam chain guide and
tensioner (page 8-13).
Install the dowel pins and a new gasket onto the cyl-
inder.
Coat a new O-ring with engine oil and install it into
the groove in the intake manifold.
After '05 model: Install the intake manifold plate and gasket (page 5-
16).
