MAINTENANCE
VALVE CLEARANCE
INSPECTION
NOTE:
• Inspect and adjust the valve clearance while the
engine is cold (below 35°C/95°F).
Remove the following:
- Radiator cover (page 6-7)
- Belt case cover (page 9-5)
- Cylinder head cover (page 8-6)
Rotate the drive pulley (crankshaft) counterclock-
wise and align the "T" mark on the flywheel with the
index mark.
Make sure the index line on the cam sprocket aligns
with the index mark on the stopper plate and the
lobe of the camshaft faces the cylinder side (TDC on
the compression stroke).
If the lobe of the camshaft is not aligned, turn the
drive pulley (crankshaft) one revolution and realign
the index line with the index mark.
Measure the valve clearance by inserting a feeler
gauge between the valve lifter and shim.
VALVE CLEARANCE:
IN: 0.10 + 0.03 mm (0.004 ± 0.001 in)
EX: 0.19 ± 0.03 mm (0.007 ± 0.001 in)
