Regional Oxygen Saturation (rSO2) (Optional) rSO2 Setup
3.3 rSO2 Setup
3.3.1 INVOS Monitor
For questions regarding the use and maintenance of the INVOS
®
Monitors, refer to its operator’s
manual or contact Covidien for assistance. Within the USA: 800-635-5267, outside the USA: +353 1
438 1700.
The INVOS
®
Monitor uses harmless, near-infrared wavelengths which easily pass through the scalp
and bone tissue beneath the sensor. Once connected to the patient, they are either absorbed or
scattered back up to the sensor’s shallow and deep detectors.
The type and quantity of absorption data returned to the detectors reflects relative amounts of de-
oxyhemoglobin and total hemoglobin, from which a regional oxygen saturation (rSO2) value unique
to the specific area under the sensor is calculated. Values are measured continuously, with display
screen updates provided to clinicians every five seconds.
The V 12/V 21 in
terfaces with the INVOS
®
Monitor. This enables rSO2 data to be displayed and
trended at the V 12/V 21, while providing alarm display and alarm responses configuration for the
rSO2 parameter.
3.3.2 Connecting to an INVOS Monitor
The following are needed to connect the V 12/V 21 to an INVOS Monitor:
• INVOS
®
Monitor
• One serial cable

the VDI module.
