Reset Condition
The reset condition used to reset the input count can be set to manual
or auto reset. When the reset condition is set to auto reset and the
input count reaches the preset value, the Output Enable signal turns
on and remains on as long as the input signal is on. When the input
signal goes off, the input count is reset.
When the reset condition is set to manual reset, the input count is
reset and the Output Enable signal is turned off when the reset signal
goes on. Input pulses are not counted while the reset signal is on.
Count Type
The count type can be set to down counter (decrementing) or up
counter (incrementing).
With a down counter, the preset value is the counter’s initial value and
the counter decrements by one count each time an input pulse is
detected. The Output Enable signal turns on when the count reaches
zero. This function block’s preset value is stored in the function
block’s internal work area, and can be monitored from a
programming device.
With an up counter, the counter’s initial value is zero, and the counter
increments by one count each time an input pulse is detected. The
Output Enable signal turns on when the count reaches the preset
value.
