Operating basics
How to backup/
restore presets and user data using a USB d rive
You can use the UTILITY menu to backup or restore the instrument presets and all
user data using a USB drive that is connected to the instrument. (See page 2-27,
UTILITY subm
enu.) You can use the backup and restore functions to duplicate
settings and signal les between different TG8000 generators.
How the backup and
restore ope
rations work
During the bac kup operation, les are copied to a directory named “TgBackup”
in the root
directory of the USB drive. The restore operation expects to copy
les from this same directory.
All of the
copy operations will create new directories/les on either the TG8000
ortheUSBdriveasneeded.Ifale with the same name exists in the destination
location, it will be overwritten. However, if a le exists in the destination location
and not in the source location, the le will be left alone. Therefore, the restore
and backup operations act as an overlay, and do not guarantee that there will not
be additional les left in the destination location that did not exist in the source
locati
on.
Presets. When presets are copied, only the MSTATEX.YY les and enough
directory structure to hold them in their correct locations (for example,
HDVG7/PRESET/MSTATE0.01) will be copied or created.
NOTE. The preset le names use the format MSTATEX.YY. In this example, X
den
otes the slot name, YY denotes the preset number (there are 13 possible
presets). Separate presets are stored for each individual mainframe slot.
On
ly presets that have content are copied or written by the backup/restore
processes. This is because only presets that have been saved have les associated
with them and the backup/restore process copies only those les. Any preset
that has never been saved will not have an associated le and therefore will not
be copied.
All user data. When all of the user data is copied, every user le except for the
FPGA conguration les will be copied. User les are dened as any le that
exists in the /app/F0 directory on the instrument. The les in this directory can
include presets, signal les, frame picture les, logo les, sequence les, and for
the SDI7 module, can also include text and font les. The user data les do not
include the application software or any Linux les.
