SPAN Messages

Error Message %SPA_T3E3-3-SSBINIT: [chars]: Fail to initialize serial IDB
Explanation
The system failed to initialize the serial IDB. The probable cause is a lack of system
memory. Earlier messages might indicate memory allocation failures.
Recommended Action Copy the message exactly as it appears on the console or in the system log.
Research and attempt to resolve the issue using the tools and utilities provided at
http://www.cisco.com/tac. With some messages, these tools and utilities will supply clarifying
information. Search for resolved software issues using the Bug Toolkit at
http://tools.cisco.com/Support/BugToolKit/. If you still require assistance, open a case with the
Technical Assistance Center via the Internet at http://tools.cisco.com/ServiceRequestTool/create, or
contact your Cisco technical support representative and provide the representative with the
information you have gathered. Attach the following information to your case in nonzipped,
plain-text (.txt) format: the output of the show logging and show tech-support commands and your
pertinent troubleshooting logs.
Error Message %SPA_T3E3-3-SUBRATE_FPGA_LOAD_FAILED2: [chars] Programming [chars]
subrate FPGA failed again. The SPA will be disabled as it cannot recover from the
FPGA image corruption.
Explanation
The specified subrate FPGA image is corrupted after an FPD upgrade. This condition
might indicate an FPD image package problem. The SPA is disabled until this problem is corrected.
Recommended Action Verify the correctness of the FPD image package. Note that the FPD image
package used in the upgrade should match the Cisco IOS release that is operating on the module. A
match between the two can be verified by entering the show upgrade fpd package default
command.

SPAN-3
Error Message %SPAN-3-SESS_DEC_CFG: SPAN hardware resource is in use. [chars]
Explanation
The system could not allocate a SPAN hardware resource for the feature specified in the
error message. It is possible that a distributed EtherChannel has been configured in the system and
that it is using the SPAN hardware resource.
Recommended Action Remove one or all of the distributed EtherChannels from the system, and retry
the operation.
