ENGINE OIL LEVEL INSPECTION
Position the motorcycle straight up when inspect-
ing the oil level.
1. Place the motorcycle on a level surface.
After idling the engine for 15 minutes, be sure the
motorcycle is vertical, then check that the oil lev-
el is between the maximum and minimum marks.
Place the motorcycle on its centerstand if a cen-
terstand is equipped. If not, place a suitable
stand under the motorcycle.
2. Inspect:

Oil level should be between the maximum

Oil level is below the minimum mark Add oil
up to the proper level.
Recommended oil:
Refer to the following chart for
selection of oils which are suited
to the atmospheric temperatures.
Recommended engine oil classifica-
tion:
API STANDARD:
API “SE” or higher grade
Do not put in any chemical additives or use
oils with a grade of CD
a
or higher.
Be sure not to use oils labeled “ENERGY
CONSERVING II” b or higher. Engine oil also
lubricates the clutch and additives could
cause clutch slippage.
Be sure no foreign material enters the crank-
case.
3. Start the engine and let it warm up for several
minutes.
4. Turn off the engine and check the oil level
again.
Before checking the oil level, wait a few minutes
until the oil settles.
