Faults Causes Remedy
Gearbox over‐
heats.
Motor fan cover and/or gearbox very
dirty.
Clean the fan cover and surface of the
geared motor (Page437).
Incorrect oil level for the mounting posi‐
tion being used.
Check the mounting position
(Page527) and the oil level
(Page514).
Incorrect oil being used (e.g. incorrect
viscosity).
Checking the oil quality (Page517).
Oil is too old. Check the date of last oil change. If re‐
quired, change the oil (Page514).
Excessive bearing play and/or bearing
defective.
Check the bearing and replace if neces‐
sary.
Coolant temperature outside the per‐
missible range.
Adjust the cooling air to the appropriate
temperature.
Output shaft does
not turn when the
motor is running.
Force ow interrupted by breakage in
gearbox.
Call Technical Support.
Geared motor only
starts with dicul‐
ty or not at all.
Incorrect oil level for the mounting posi‐
tion being used.
Check the mounting position
(Page527) and the oil level
(Page514).
Incorrect oil being used (e.g. incorrect
viscosity).
Checking the oil quality (Page517).
Excessive external load on the drive in‐
put and output.
Check the load against rated data (you
might need to correct the belt tension,
for example).
Motor brake is not released. Check the circuitry/connection of the
brake. Check brake for wear and readjust
if necessary.
Excessive play at
drive input and out‐
put.
Flexible elements worn (e.g.on cou‐
plings).
Replace exible elements.
Positive connection disrupted by over‐
load.
Call Technical Support.
Speed and torque
drop.
Belt tension too low (for belt drive). Check the belt tension and replace belt if
necessary.
