Laws and regulations
Rule of the road
When entering countries where the traffic
drives on the opposite side of the road to
the country in which your car is registered,
the following measures are necessary to
avoid dazzling the drivers of oncoming
vehicles.
1. Remove remote control from the ignition
lock
2. Remove cover cap from the back of both
headlights, see arrow; to do this, press the
tongue.
On the left-hand side of the engine
compartment, it is necessary to remove the
cover first, see page 278.

OBD socket
The on-board diagnosis socket is on the
driver's side, on the underside of the instru-
ment panel to the left, behind a cover.
Components which have a decisive effect
on exhaust emissions can be tested at this
interface with a suitable device.
If the indicator light comes on:
Deterioration in exhaust emission
values. Please arrange for the
problem to be examined by BMW Service.
Returning the car
When your car reaches the end of its useful
life, the fact that it is largely suitable for
recycling will avoid unnecessary expense
for you and undue burden on the environ-
ment. Easily removable components and
assemblies containing re-usable materials
wherever possible increase the value of a
scrapped vehicle.
BMW cooperates with selected, licensed
disposal and recycling companies in its
various countries; these accept your
vehicle at the end of its useful life and
recycle or dispose of it and its component
parts according to the principles laid down
by BMW.
BMW Service will gladly advise you
on returning the car for disposal when
the time comes for it to be withdrawn from
use.
